Our Founder
Lord Cutglass Clock Co is owned by Mark Leen, an entrepreneur from Ireland who won a prestigious place at a London Drama School after reciting the poem made famous by the Welshman by heart with a Burton-esque styling and delivery.
Mark was always fascinated by the loony Lord Cutglass character listening to 66 clocks pinging and striking, ticking and tocking the earth away.
Mark has worked with Zeon - Europe's No 1 clockmaker to create the Talking Elvis clock which sold hundreds of thousands of units, and indeed Mark's dulcet tones are heard in as many kitchens and homes across the globe.
Lord Cutglass Clocks® was first registered in 2022.
The Inspiration
The name "Lord Cutglass Clocks" comes from Dylan Thomas's famous play "Under Milk Wood." In this poetic masterpiece, Thomas creates the character of Lord Cut-Glass, an eccentric man who lives surrounded by 66 clocks - one for each year of his "loony age."
This character's obsession with time and his collection of diverse clocks - from grandfather clocks to cuckoo clocks, from "clocks shaped like Noah's whirring Ark" to "Vesuvius clocks all black bells and lava" - captured Mark Leen's imagination and inspired the creation of our company.
